The panoramic coaches are designed around large windows curving toward the roof, making the changing terrain the focus of the ride. Both first and second class use this sightseeing format. Regional trains also travel the Bernina Line, but they are a different product with different windows and booking arrangements. Choose the actual Bernina Express panoramic service if that experience is important, and check whether your selected departure runs from Chur or St. Moritz. These starting points cover different lengths of journey and should not be treated as interchangeable.

This is not an overnight sleeper service. Compare the exact seating or service class, dining arrangements and accessibility of the chosen carriage. Any hotel nights in a wider package are separate from accommodation aboard the train.

Both classes use the large-window sightseeing format, so first class is a choice about space and seating rather than access to an exclusive landscape. The standard panoramic service should also be distinguished from separately marketed special Pullman experiences.

If the panoramic experience is important, confirm the actual service, starting point and reserved class. A Chur departure covers a longer route than one from St. Moritz, changing the time you will spend seated. Plan hotel nights and luggage needs around the wider Swiss–Italian journey, not a presumed sleeping compartment.

The main attraction is the railway and scenery, with refreshments supporting that daytime journey.
If a substantial meal is important, plan it around the timetable in Chur, St. Moritz or Tirano, or check the current onboard choices before travelling. A short connection in Tirano may not leave time for an unhurried restaurant lunch. Dietary needs deserve particular attention when the menu is limited. Special culinary products can have different inclusions, but those must be identified explicitly rather than transferred to every standard panoramic reservation.

How to plan this journey well
Arrange both a valid travel ticket or pass and the required panoramic-seat reservation. Check the precise route and service number: RhB has announced a Vereina diversion for trains 951 and 952 from 29 October to 13 November 2026. This changes the usual Chur approach. Leave sensible time for onward connections, check cross-border travel-document requirements separately and pack with limited luggage storage in mind when combining the journey with a longer holiday.

Travellers who want a concentrated Alpine panorama, an interesting Swiss–Italian connection and a premium seating option without the cost or format of a luxury sleeper.
