The Glacier Express has no overnight bedrooms. First and second class both use panoramic seating, with first class offering more personal space; neither is a private compartment. Excellence Class is a separate premium product with guaranteed window seating, concierge service and its own bar area. The upgrade changes hospitality and space, not access to an entirely different railway landscape.
For a full-day crossing, consider table arrangement, travelling companions and the value of included dining alongside the seat itself. A larger service package may suit a special occasion, while a first- or second-class reservation still offers the signature panoramic journey. Keep hotel nights at either end separate from the train booking and check luggage arrangements if travelling between two Swiss bases.

Choose the class and meal plan together instead of adding the same catering assumption to every fare. The published menu includes dietary options, but an option labelled vegetarian or gluten-free does not answer every allergy or preparation question. Explain requirements in advance and check what can be pre-ordered. If dining is a major part of the occasion, avoid a rushed connection that reduces the experience to a transfer.
